Comments: Just Don't Look Back

See, you need to have an account on Ravelry to keep track of all of this.
;-)

Well, you could always sneak some roving into her 'stash' to keep her busy, rather than her having time to give you projects. Yeah, just a thought.

They're all so scrumptuous!

Ryan:

Don't feel badly! I also have never cracked a Harry Potter book, AND I don't even know WHAT this "RAVELRY" thing is of which you speak ...

Oh, alright, I read the very first Harry Potter book waaay back but of course can't remember much about it...and I've not even signed up for Ravelry, I consider myself in very good company now.
TMK's yarns are so beautiful!

Posted by marianne at August 10, 2007 01:07 PM

Although I will admit to reading Harry Potter, you're not the only one not doing Ravelry. I spend way too much time on the computer already!!
That yarn is gorgeous (all of it).

Posted by Kate at August 10, 2007 01:18 PM

I haven't read a single Harry Potter book and have no intention of doing so. Just not my thing. (Harry Potter, that is. Reading is definitely one of my things!) Not joining Ravelry either. I don't crank out enough to make it worth it. So, that makes a couple of us who are the only people in the world. Not so lonely now?

Posted by Kristen at August 10, 2007 01:21 PM

Okay, I admit it, when I visited jolly 'Ole England in '99 I bought and read the first Harry Potter book. I never read any of the other books, still haven't, and don't plan to. I didn't get "into" it.

Ravelry....been there too, and a little overwhelmed with all of the stuff. The yarn porn there is HUGE (interpret at will).

In the online knitting community you are never alone, which is why it's so great.

Posted by Lisa at August 10, 2007 01:28 PM

Love the big boy yarn!

Ryan, that's not a pack of yorkies chasing you. That's TMK. ;^)

Posted by Cookie at August 10, 2007 01:43 PM

I can't commiserate on the Harry Potter books (loved them all!), but I haven't joined Ravelry either, and don't plan to. Judging from the comments, we are not alone! :)

TMK's yarn is all gorgeous!

Posted by jules at August 10, 2007 02:15 PM

Love Harry Potter, no interest in Ravelry.
TMK is amazing with her spinning, though! I can't wait to see the BSJ you make in a little while with all the leftovers from bootees and hats and matching socks! hee hee.

Posted by Mary de B at August 10, 2007 02:26 PM

I'm *so* in agreement about the yapping Yorkies!! I get really antsy when I think the stash and the UFOs are getting closer behind me.

I'd love to know where TMK got the "Caramel" and "Tropical" fibers. I'd like to expand my list of potential on-line dyed fiber sources, and I like them both a lot (as I do the others whose sources you included). I REALLY love Tropical!

Me: YES to the Potter books, "Don't get it" to Ravelry.

Thanks!

Posted by MaryB in Richmond at August 10, 2007 02:44 PM

MaryB in Richmond, I'm afraid Tropical Juice is a one of a kind. Stephanie/Yarn Harlot gave TMK some beautiful white merino as a gift, and then TMK dyed it with Mother McKenzie's dyes and spun it up.

TMK, do you remember the vendor you bought Caramel Sauce from at Madrona?

Posted by Ryan at August 10, 2007 02:50 PM

The caramel sauce roving came from the Dizzy Ewe who was at Madrona. I renamed the color; I forget what color she called it. But it's yummy. TMK

Love the Margaritaville results! Fabulous, just fabulous! As I was first glancing at the post, I thought, I must have some of that yarn! I guess it's time to think seriously about spinning!

I confess I read the first Harry potter--but only because I was reading it along with my daughter who kept falling sleep during it...and while the rave reviews about Ravelry are tempting, I just can't see the value (yet)...and like so many of you, it's just too much time on the computer and not enough doing!

Posted by Deb J at August 10, 2007 03:31 PM

I would happily knit up any of these items for you, just to take a load off of your shoulders.

(Though I was on ravelry - yes, I admit it - and it makes me vaguely queasy that I have 8 WIPs, though a number of them are close to done.)

Posted by Seanna Lea at August 10, 2007 03:31 PM

You MUST belong to a Yorkie to come up with that analogy! Yappy, ankle-biting, and heartwarmingly cute! Why else would we put up with them?

Posted by Julie at August 10, 2007 04:17 PM

You're not the only one who isn't doing Ravelry. Every post I see mentions how people are fairly starry eyed over the potential for stash enhancement, and, well, I don't need the help. :D

Posted by moiraeknittoo at August 10, 2007 04:24 PM

Crap, hit post too soon. TMK's spinning looks fantastic! I love all the colors, and it looks like she's found another niche craft. TMK - are you at all interested in working with raw wool? Or at least washed? I have...a bit...and I'm willing to share. *looks at bags and boxes of fleece* Yeah, I have a bit.

Posted by moiraeknittoo at August 10, 2007 04:42 PM

Moiraeknittoo: Ummmmm.....No. Thanks but I think I'll just stick to nice, clean fluffy roving! ;-)

Posted by The Mysterious K at August 10, 2007 04:49 PM

MMMM Happy Pie looks yummy -- but then again I though Angry Pie looked yummy too -- did you brave that one singular piece by the way on Angry Pie or did you file it .... :D

Wow TMK you have been busy!!! Loving your spinning. And I can't wait to see Tropical Juice as a Baby Surprise Jacket -- I have been thinking of making one of them but not in anything as pretty as Tropical Juice.

Posted by rho at August 10, 2007 05:38 PM

Wonderful yarn photos! It's a rainy day here in Connecticut so I really needed the color. Thanks.

Posted by Lydia at August 10, 2007 05:52 PM

Don't worry Ryan - like we have time for "Ravelry"! yes I'll be snotty - after a 50 hour a week job and all the F------ (you figure out the letters) yard work, like I have time to sit on a computer and Yak.... (what kind of sounds do Yaks make anyway?). I can only imagine what knitters with kids go through....
Anyways, this weekend is DYEING... testing Judith Mackenzie's dyes.... should be fun. Irina.

Posted by Irina at August 10, 2007 06:53 PM

Dang, that yarn looks so gorgeous that I'd knit something at TMK's request just to be able to knit with it! TMK, don't you think Big Boy or Rio would look beautiful made up into this www.debbieblissonline.com/books/sf/sf_12.htm for the hairstylist?

Doncha?

Posted by Laurie at August 10, 2007 07:25 PM

I've got a Ravelry account. It's an empty shell - haven't done a thing with it. Why exactly do I need another time suck, and why do I want to duplicate everything I already do in the blog? But I'm probably just an old prude and just not "enlightened" yet, because everyone else seems to be so thrilled with it.

Harry Potter: Well, I can take it or leave it. Read one (not sure I finished), skimmed another, or maybe two. Found it very predictable. Watched the movies, can hardly remember them.

See? Once again we prove we're two peas in a proverbial pod.

Posted by Norma at August 10, 2007 07:50 PM

Cuz, I too am on the "not on the Harry Potter bandwagon", um, bandwagon. Think I read some of one when in a deep funk at Cuzzin Laura's a while back. Recall nary a word, the literary equivalent of eating a meringue. With no sauce.

Posted by Cuzzin Tom at August 10, 2007 08:29 PM

I'm not doing the Ravelry thing either. I've got a database on my computer for my yarn and fiber stashes. I do need to start one for my WsIP and my planned projects though.

I just don't have time for something new without getting rid of something I already do and I'm not willing to give up anything at the moment. I already give up enough knitting time to the routine minutiae of everyday life.

Good luck staying ahead of TMK's spinning!

Posted by morenna at August 10, 2007 09:00 PM

Let me be again one of the first to say "TOLDJA" about TMK spinning right through the summer. Now Ryan, have you considered that you don't get that purely because you are still resisting learning to spin yourself? Hmmmmmmm?

Posted by Linda "K" at August 10, 2007 09:03 PM

I'm in the lineup for Ravelry (in fact I expect to get my invitation within two or three days) however my only experience with Harry Potter was listening to a friend read a couple of pages to her son one night before we went out.

And then the next day I had heartburn so bad I couldn't move ... and then three days after that I found out I was pregnant.

I just can't risk it again.

Posted by Rabbitch at August 11, 2007 12:25 AM

I haven't read a Harry Potter book, and I'm glad the hype is slowing down over this last one. I've got way too many books in the queue. I'm also not on Ravelry (yet).
Tell TMK the spinning is beautiful and I'm sure she can find plenty of people wiling to knit with it if she keeps spinning.

Posted by Brenda at August 11, 2007 06:41 PM

I have never read a Harry Potter book. Ever.

I did, however, just now (okay, it took me a week) read the Philip Pullman trilogy that begins with The Golden Compass. SO preferable to J.K. Rowling, from what I've seen. (Because scanning paragraphs is not the same as reading. I've scanned HP. I am, however, told that it makes good out-loud reading for kids.)

I'm on Ravelry and haven't posted any of my stuff yet. But it's fun to harass people by making them be my friends :-)

Posted by Lee Ann at August 11, 2007 11:01 PM

I love that Rio colourway.

Posted by Jo at August 12, 2007 08:30 AM

Does TMK sell her yarn? My daughter and I are absolutely coveting the Margaritaville. Or, if that is already spoken for, does she take commissions? Or possibly a trade? Girlcrushing all over the place here.

Posted by Elizabeth Spinner at August 13, 2007 07:42 AM

Well, I guess it's time for me to stop referring to myself as "the only knitting blogger without a book contract" (although that still feels like it's true) and start referring to myself, instead, as "the only knitting blogger not to join Ravelry."

Seriously - I'm wondering if people will still even READ my blog (not that many people do to begin with) when they find out I'm not on Ravelry, like "What kind of knitting poser are you, not to be on Ravelry?"

In my defense - I was always one of the weird nerdy kids who ate lunch alone.

Posted by fillyjonk at August 13, 2007 08:14 AM

I am just about finished with HP book 1 and I have been in/on(?) Ravelry for about two whole weeks. I am SO in step with the world these days! Wait, am I supposed to be doing anything else??

TMK's handspun is just mahvelous. I'm pining for the merino/bamboo from Dragon Fibers, and I don't spin! *GASP* Maybe THAT'S what I'm supposed to be doing....
