Ain't No Fun When the Rabbit's Got The Gun

Blog, blog, what shall I say
that hasn't already been said?
What shall become of these words that I type
after I'm cold and dead?
And what of the wips that will never get done,
should they go with me to the grave?
There's prob'ly a lot
that won't fit in my plot,
so hide them instead in some cave.

Then hundreds of years from the time that I die
In that cave from so long ago
A sheep will discover what looks like his brother--
And mankind will remember. And so
The ancient art of knitting with yarn
Will then be restored to the world,
so do not diminish
the lack of a finish
Of garments we knit and purled.

Do not speak to me of sleep, my friends. I will not bore you with how much of it I didn't get and all the reasons why. I love my pets and my husband but sometimes I wish I could just run away, snuggle up in some big comfy bed alone and sleep uninterruptedly for just one entire night.

I've been knitting too much. What?! , you gasp. Yes, it's true. Today I intend to do Something Different. Maybe I will spin. I've been thinking about the Shetland roving I got last year at Black Sheep, the so-called Fakob Jakob. Or maybe I'll cut and piece a quilt square-- maybe even a Penrose sample. Until I fall asleep, that is. It's a dismal day, good for puttering around with no purpose.

I was listening to blues music last night, I love the blues. I wonder if anyone has ever calculated the percentage of blues songs that start with "I woke up this morning". I'd say at least 80% start that way. I am reminded of comedian Jon Stewart, speaking of the Jews and African-Americans. He said the blacks had suffered for centuries, and had developed the blues as a result. The Jews suffered too, but just never thought of putting it to music. My favorite of the evening contained the line "It ain't no fun when the rabbit's got the gun", sung by Floyd Miles. I would think this would be especially true if the rabbit holding the gun was this one (scroll down a bit after you click on the link to see him).

And in the Did you know this? category-- Did you know that "they" now use Botox to treat all kinds of things, like back pain, migraines, neck pain, drooling, excessive sweating and esophageal spasms? I honed in on the acute and chronic neck pain part, gonna have to check into that one. Apparently the use of botox was first developed to correct opthalmalogical problems with overactive eye muscles. Then a dermatologist was at a party talking to his ophthalmologist's wife (is there a story there? Madame wonders) and she told him that many of the opthalmic patients were delighted with the side effect of the relaxed brow, ergo reduced frown lines, ergo younger looks. And the rest is history. Except for this latest news-to-me thingie.

Back to knitting, I finished 2 repeats on Birch. It's much easier this time around, no mistakes have been made. I got really tired of purling a whole row of approximately 300 stitches, so I've been knitting backwards instead, and it is much faster and much more satisfying. On Ballerina I am ready to start the first sleeve.

And no, I didn't start anything new yesterday. Surprised?

you really must go see "Ain't Nothing But the Blues" at Seattle Rep!

It's a shame Nadia Krinkelmeyer can't drop by when you can't sleep, instead of when you are trying to work.

Verrrry interesting about the botox; I think I will speak to someone about that too, since chronic neck pain is also an issue here.

Keep on WIPping, please.

I woke up this mornin' (ba DUM da DUM)
And started a hummin' (ba DUM da DUM)
Cuz I had slept all night.... yippee!

Zeila, I will definitely check into the Rep now that the Gray One can start to participate in a social life again, thanks for the hint!

Nadia has been strangely missing for a while. Methinks she gave up, or else is getting a higher degree to attempt to cope with me. The last I remember seeing her was she asked me for the umpteenth time "How does that make you feel" and I rained every descriptive word in the dictionary down upon her. She nodded, looked at her watch and said "well, our time is up for today."

Do check into the Botox, it seems like a dream come true if it will stop the spasming muscles without putting you to sleep. The effects are supposed to last for at least three months.

And Vanessa, of course I'll show you how to knit backwards, it's really a kick, even easier than knitting forwards. Hmmm. I wonder if it would be easier to knit garter stitch backwards. Research is required.

I knit backwards too. For some types of yarn on some projects, its just - as you say - faster and easier.

If you come up with a way to do garter backwards, let me know? I've been trying to work it out but haven't come up with anything yet that isn't completely awkward and clumsy - which, of course, defeats the purpose :)

Metaphysics is the finding of bad reasons for what we believe upon instinct, but to find these reasons is no less an instinct.
