Stitch and Itch
The good news is that I cast on for the center of Feng Shue and knit approximately 3", or 1/10th of it yesterday.
The good news is also that I really like the way it looks and feels--mmmm, soft and warm and cuddly...
The other other good news is that the 6th season of Buffy on DVD arrived in the mail and we sat down to watch the first episode last night.
The bad news, combining all this good news, is that the entire last row I knit I was crossing my cables in the wrong direction, and now I have to tink the whole row. Bad Buffy, bad bad Buffy!
It was very difficult to get any kind of a picture today, it is rainy and gloomy and the dark yarn doesn't help much. But you should be able to make out the 7-cable flat braids, separated by the twist cable.
And I got something last night that I don't believe I've had in at least three years or so-- a bug bite. I know, ye who live in the Land of Giant Mosquitoes probably don't feel sorry for me. It's just so surprising, all of a sudden to have this region of your leg torturing you. And I'm no stranger to itchorture, believe me. When I was growing up in central Illinois, I would contract a terrible case of poison ivy every summer. My face would be disfigured, my ears turned inside out, my arms and legs in torment. I felt like the Elephant Man and didn't want anyone to see me. Nanny Granny would concoct a soothing paste of buttermilk and baking soda and apply it everywhere. It would harden like a cast. By the end of the day there were little cracks running through it, and various areas of wetness where the poison ivy "juice" had oozed through. Then I mostly looked like a leper.
Now if you had been both the Elephant Man and a leper at the same time, would a simple mosquito bite bring back fond memories? I think not. I'm waiting for the West Nile disease to spring forth and anNilelate me.
Now, a few words about our sponsor. Well, kind of. Movable Type announced mid month that their new software version would require licensing and have limits on authors and blogs. The free version limits a site to one blog and three authors. Obviously, that will not work for NWKniterati.
Our plan is to continue using the MT version we have. In the meantime, I will be developing our own blog program. I was thinking that it might be nice to blog that process over on SQL for Knitters, which has lain unupdated since I "retired" from my job. This would allow reader input into requirement and feature decisions, and would/should keep me focused on it. It would also be good for me to sharpen my skills so that in the horrendous event that I would ever need to go back to a computer job I would still be currently qualified. The blog software would be based on SQL Server and use ASP.net as the development language. What think ye of this (other) cunning plan?
sheila, what color is the bearfoot, it looks lovely? makes comfy sox also :-)

I don't mean to be presumptuous - you are one of the most able and creative knitters I've ever seen. But I've got a picture-guide on how to fix cables without frogging if you think that might be useful? Under "How do I do that?"

Actually I do know how to fix without frogging, but in this case there were 30 cables evenly spaced across the row, and it was just faster/easier in the long run to take out the row. It's over with now, whew!

I'll have to tell my husband there are other intelligent people out there over the age of 14 who watch Buffy. He thinks I'm insane. The mountain goat is lovely.
Posted by: Jessica on May 27, 2004 07:41 AMThe DVD has been the knitter's best friend. I have never seen Buffy--but I was overjoyed to find Northern Exposure Year 1 would be available May 25th. I have made more stitches watching bootleg video tapes of this show! And the Lord of the Rings, hours and hours and hours of show and extras (but never knit during the first few viewings--tension gets all wonky at the exciting bits, and they are all exciting bits!).

Posted by: Lynn on May 27, 2004 09:22 AMAs an architect and developer - I wouldn't do it. Most cheap servers don't run either ASP.NET or Java. There is a very nice opensource blog now that I am busy playing with for mamaliz - it is called wordpress. It is written in php and uses mysql, so it is excellent for those $5 a month servers.
