While the world was ending last night, I slept through it like a baby. The Gray One was awakened by the huge bright flash that lit the entire sky like the noontime sun on a clear day. Sure that it was a nuclear bomb, he planned to scoop me up as soon as he heard the boom, take me downstairs, gather all the animals, and wait for the shockwave and the end. I'm glad I was so soundly asleep; I don't think my heart would have survived the fear and dread. Was it Mrs. Cravitz's concoction or was it a meteorite? Time will tell.
Last night I talked to my big brother, David. Our family is not the keep-in-touch-often type. We are spread all throughout the country like the coconut on top of my dad's favorite pie. He has a daughter a little older than my own. I asked him about her.
"She's doing fine, real good."
"Do you get to see her much?"
"No, she moved to California."
"Oh really? I didn't know that. "
"Yeah, her husband got a job with blahblah and they moved recently."
"She's married!?"
"Yes. And their little girl is cute as a button."
"She has a baby?!"
"Yes. There's expecting their second one now."
"Their second???!!"
Clearly I should touch base more often. I feel sooooooo old. My brother, who has an 18 month old son himself, is a grandfather. Wow. My own poor unmarried daughter, in the meantime, is "wasting" her life away at Yellowstone for the season. I wonder which one is having more fun!
Tomorrow I start a weaving class at The Weaving Works, a rare entry into the formal training arena. Likely I will not blog until late afternoon if at all.
My recent knitting? All frogged. I'll start it again today-- I am Determined. One day soon I will have something to show for it.
don't tell me you frogged the mountain colors??!! you will enjoy the weaving class, and there are many things to be learned hands on, like warping the bloody loom (my least fav)
Posted by: vanessa on June 3, 2004 09:58 AMOh, no! Not the Feng Shue... my other high priority project for the business, a design. I'm still working through some stuff, so I don't mind frogging 10 rows, knitting 12, frogging 9, etc. etc. If it continues forever, I might start minding.
Posted by: Sheila on June 3, 2004 10:32 AMWell, now I know for sure: the end of the world will come and I will sleep right through it...
When's your class? I might just have to stop by Weaving Works just about the time class lets out!
Posted by: Janine on June 3, 2004 03:05 PMIt's from 9 to noonish, and I'll probably hang around for a little bit and see if they have the shades of Mountain Goat that I need. It'd be great to see you!
Posted by: Sheila on June 3, 2004 03:14 PMI'm betting your daughter is having the best time in Yellowstone. I lived there for two summers in college and it was such a high point! Super Fun!

Posted by: Fast Wares on September 5, 2004 02:51 AMI rarely speak in absolutes when discussing texas holdem, but it is absolutely worth the study. Texas holdem is a people game played with cards, not a card game played by people, at least once you get out of the penny-ante level.
