Chaos

The nice neat progress pictures you've been seeing so far are the result of me taking the time to pin up the LaJ on my blocking board, smoothing out all the bumps and taking the photo. In real life, just like real life, it's a much more chaotic piece of knitting than that! But once it's washed and blocked, it should look more like the previous photos. Here is my most recent picture:

Bored yet?

Here's a close-up of the leaf I named "Violet", because that's how she started out. Sometimes I think, maybe it should be have been named "Violent" but that's only after I get tweaked :-)

Years ago when I was married to my first husband I spent a lot of time in Mississippi with my three small children while their dad was off on some TDY assignments, sometimes as long as 6 months. I would get up early in the morning so that I could enjoy a cup of coffee by myself before the kids woke up, and sit out on the back deck which was surrounded by trees. There was one tree that I named "Bob" (years before I met and married Bob the Liar, so there were no connotations to the name at that point). Bob and I would have little conversations, mostly about whether he was about to bud (after which I could name a branch "Bud") or not, and whether his leaves would be uncurled by the next day. I really miss Bob. He and I had some of the most intelligent conversations, and he was a true friend.

Here is more progress on the Laurel-Linette-Lummis sweater (Pat Lummis emailed me that she, too, covets the Pesto Magpie!).

Did everyone have a nice Valentine's Day? We laid low, and today we are going wedding-band shopping. Brad lost his band in a dumpster last week and four men searched for an hour without finding it (at the local landfill). He was heartsick, and so we will get him a new one. I have to say it's been one of the most stressful weeks in a long time!

I have decided I will definitely be at Stitches West next weekend! I was getting cold feet there for a while, but now am looking forward to it. If you're going to be there, I'd love to meet you.

Speaking of friends, a few of you have asked me if it would be possible to have a group blog, and I'm working on making that happen with a couple of folks helping out on the technical side. Are you interested? Post some comments if so, and tell me what you'd like. The vision right now is just to have a blog where interested parties are given author permissions and you just post to it as if it were your own blog or just a running conversation. Folks who don't think they have enough to say to have their own blog can just contribute to this proposed blog. You'd be able to upload pictures and show us your knitting progress and your pets, too, if you'd like :-)

Tomorrow is the PNW Knitting Soiree at my house at 1:00 and I get to meet Angela Ho among others!! But Angela, I promise I won't take your picture unless you give me permission (she's very shy).

I'll play in your blog!

I'm not sure I have enough content to have my own, but would love to be part of yours.
