Options For Lace Fix

Sherlock says "Good Arfning!"

Much depressed yesterday over the lace dilemma, I have now drawn strength from the Fibertraditions crowd and will try the solutions offered (after sitting in the gutter and crying for a while). First, I will try Angela's suggestion of isolating the problem area and ripping back just the affected columns of stitches, reworking back up to the point of departure.

If that proves too frustrating (and first, in any case), I'll take Jan and Caroline's suggestion and run a second needle through a row of stitches just before the problem, then rip back to that.

If that is simply beyond me, I will painstakingly tink every one of those 1500+ stitches and do it all over again (without the mistake, of course!), which is what Laura and Sam would do, and is of course the absolutely most reliable way (but also the longest).

I also took their advice and poured myself a nice Irish Painkiller last night before going to bed. I hadn't really thought about it, but I hadn't had any alcohol in over a week! It is usually my custom to have a glass of red wine every evening, or sometimes a martini, but I guess with the lack of sleep that goes along with new puppies, I've just not felt the desire or need. At any rate, the IPK did the trick and I'm in a much better mood today. Plus, it's Friday, yippee!!

Brad has promised to finish painting Madame Glitchbane's parlor today. It's a huge mess and it's really hard to feel organized, but it's going to look very nice when finished. The main walls are caramel, the accent walls are a dark raspberry -- I sent him to the paint store with a ball of Jamieson & Smith shetland 2-ply and told him to match it! The ceiling, fireplace and trim are white. This all goes very well with the modern art painting we have, which brings together all the colors in the furniture and the carpet. The painting isn't in this picture, it's been removed to the yarnitorium for the moment. Don't even get me started on what *that* room looks like right now!

Notice Jojo The Camera Hog sitting in the window for the shoot?

I am considering knitting some white lace curtains for these windows, what do you think? But then there will be the sliding glass door, which I don't know what to do with. It needs to have a covering that blocks light due to the "theatre" role that is played by the room at times.

Remember back when you were little or your kids were little and you watched Sesame Street? Remember the cartoon conversation where one guy is trying to explain to another guy what his car looks like? There are thought bubbles above each guy, and one has a picture of the car and the other has a picture of what the second guy is thinking that the car looks like based on the description given by the other. The second bubble's picture keeps changing as the explanation becomes clarified through questions and answers, until both pictures match.

Well, I always think about that and have a hearty laugh when my descriptions turn out to be less than stellar. For example, a few weeks ago I asked Erica for her ideas on what colors would look good in the basement. Here is the description of the basement I gave her:

a blue/bordering on teal carpet
rose print sofa
mauve futon
modern art that has in it saffron, purples, blues, burgundies, gold (but
mostly saffron/gold)

She gave marvelous suggestions, which I used as the basis for the color scheme we put in place. But the very fun thing she did was draw this picture of her idea of what the basement looked like (this picture is used with her permission):

I love it! It looks exactly like what I described and not exactly like what I meant. Communication is an art, for sure!!
