Today seems to be the Friday for Fluster-Bombing. I was flustered by having waked up late while still needing to get packed for my trip Out East. (Mini Driver will take me to Pullman today, through the wonderful little town of Dusty, Washington.) I was flustered by the sudden realization that it is MY day to buy the doughnuts at work, and flustered because my intentions of photographing the morning mourning shawl progress can not be realized due to lack of time. I have a great defense system for fluster-bombing, though, and everything will work out just fine.
I picked up my 509 stitches along the side of the scalloped border last night, amazed that I actually ended up with exactly 509 stitches although I did not count them as I picked them up. I knit the first two rows, but it takes forever! I kept thinking that Gladys should not have said "pick up 509 stitches", but rather "pick up half a thousand stitches, and then nine more", so as to give the knitter the true sense of what she was in for. Regardless, I am still fascinated by this project; it makes me happy despite its name and purpose.
The funniest show on TV is "Whose Line Is It, Anyway?", a game where the "lines are made up and the points don't matter". Hosted in the US by Drew Carey, it originated in England but is funny in either country. Last night's guest stars included Lassie (yes, dear-- the dog) and Sid Caesar, whose improvisation of foreign language mimicry had me howling.
Once upon a time I mentioned the "Questions Only" game on ASOF/KBTH and thus began the most laugh-provoking exchange of emails I have ever known, between myself and a friend from ASOF. Each email was a question, of course. I would wake up in the morning and go to my computer to see one email from her containing one question, and would be laughing for the rest of the day. Sometimes I would take my time to consider my answering question, and sometimes it was immediately inspired.
Fortuitously, Wayne Brady (a regular on Whose Line) is giving a performance in the Big City of Pullman, home of WSU and my darling daughter, tomorrow night. This is a part of Mom's Weekend, a whirlwind of activities and festivities for those with a proclivity towards bonding with their daughters. Where will this mom/daughter duo be going? To Moscow Idaho, of course! There's no yarn shop in Pullman, silly.
I've been watching Wendy's progress on Henry VIII, interested very much in the color difference between the Autumn Substitute (Jamieson's #1100, I believe?) and the old Autumn Scottish Campion. Veronique sent me a photo of a swatches from both yarns a while back and the Jamieson substitute had a large deal of blue in it, which the original does not have. Nonetheless, Wendy's Hank8 looks superb (but what has Wendy ever knit that doesn't look superb?!).
he he he, i am feeling like the cat who ate the goldfish because i have the original autumn and marjoram stashed for henry. when i first fell in love with alice, i called every store listed in the back of pch and tracked them down. one store owner told me "dear, there's not a skein of marjoram left in the united states." nothing like a challenge! so when i get good enough i can do henry proud ;-)

Posted by: CarolineF on April 12, 2003 06:52 PMi think it was one of the colors they did for alice and had to discontinue it when they parted ways, but i could be wrong!
