The 45th

45years.jpg

45 years old, and still able to stand upright. Can you believe it?

Yesterday I was awakened by my son wishing me happy birthday on the phone. He informed me that when he visited Mississippi University for Womena a few weeks ago, he looked through old pictures there and photocopied some of me. He said "Ma, you looked like you were 45 years old back then!" And now I have finally grown into my skin.

It was a good day. The Gray made my favorite dinner-- Glop. And he brought me my favorite chocolate cake, the Mother Lode chocolate cake from Claimjumper's. Sherlock gave me lots of kisses, and I felt like Queen for the Day.

I took the day off from fiber activities to read a book, The Seduction of Water, by Carol Goodman. What a writer she is, and I think she will get even better. In this book, she weaves together the past and present of the main character with the ancient fairy tales so magically well that I'll be thinking about it for a long time. Unfortunately either she or her editor thought she had to rely on a misplaced quasi-formulaic mystery-solved-by-gun twist near the end. The plot could have stood on its own and been much more beautiful.

It is obvious that this author, Carol Goodman, is a knitter. You will have to read the book to find out why it is so obvious!

Congrats on your birthday!

I have to say, I had to gasp, looking at your picture. I had a toy poodle who looked *just like* Sherlock... he was 16 when I had to put him down in 2001. Your little guy tugs at my heartstrings every time...

I have another poodle now - an apricot miniature bitch, Blossom.

Sravana, who can't get enough of the poodles...

First, of course, happy birthday!
Second, I have to ask--what is "glop?" I ask because my mother used to make her own concoction of "glop" of ground beef, tomato sauce (or soup?) and whatever else she put in there and I'm wondering if yours is anything like it? (What are the odds of there being more than one family recipe of that name, anyway?)

Deb, the Gray's glop is a mixture of hot pasta (penne or curly pasta), tuna, calamata olives, artichoke hearts, onion and tomato and capers, with parmesan grated over the top... yum!

Sravana, I really hope my Sherlock lives to 16... I can't imagine being without him.

Emma, happy birthday to you, too! :-)

Yes, add my name to the throng: HAppy birthday!

And clearly the Gray has no idea what Glop means to those of us raised on Campbell's soup cuisine...

Happy birthday!

And ooooh, on the Claimjumpers. I like their mudpies. Sigh.

There aren't any out here in Georgia...sometimes I miss SouCal.

Happy Birthday, Sheila! What a terrific picture of you and Sherlock, too.

Gosh. That picture of you is excellent. You don't look anywhere old enough to be 45. Congrats and a happy birthday!

You look fantastic, Sheila! If you ever are in doubt, go back and have a gander at the Rona's Hill photoshoot from a little while ago. Hot, hot, hot!

Happy birthday for a couple of days ago! And Kelsey Creek is looking good! Funny how we get caught up with other people's colourways....

Just wanted to say thanks for the book recommendation. It was excellant! I started it about 10 and finished it at 8 in the evening. Could Not Put It Down. Well, I did, to burn a pile of leaves and for homeschool, but other than that, not at all. You are right, she is definitely a knitter.

Jan, I'm so glad you read it! I have another of her books, The Lake of Dead Languages or something like that, that I'm saving for just the right day. Sometimes I go to the book store and buy five or six books and then save them for months, then when I go look at my shelves there's always something new I forgot about :-)
