Ahhhhhhhhhh. The heat has dissipated somewhat, returning to levels in the low 80s rather than the high 90s. Randy is off to Japan. The Ten are off to Alaska. I have a car and a cell phone again. And I am breathing in the first life-giving fumes of caffeine.
I picked up Mermaid again last night, starting the second half of the body. The picture would be pretty much the same as last time, so I'll spare you.
I wonder if you've seen the delightful baby blanket that Jon knit-- a zillion tiny intarsia squares in wonderful colors? Truly a labor of love. I tried leaving a comment but it thought it contained objectionable content. I tried not to take it personally (insert ubiquitous smileyface here).
Somebody in my very recent past has been using the word "dearth" entirely wrong. I can't even remember who it is and I hope I'm not offending them if they are reading this. Dearth means "scarcity", as in "I have a dearth of sheep in my back yard". This person was using it to mean "surplus" as in "I have a dearth of yarn in my house." What do you do when this happens? It seems rude to correct them, because you don't want to embarrass them, but it seems wrong not to say something because they may be embarrassing themselves a lot without realizing it and you could help them stop.
Sometimes it is hard to worship in the Church of the Listening Ear.
Do you remember the Alice Starmore design "Irish Moss"? Well, here is the real thing, photographed somewhere between Galway and Clifden:

And across the water from them, some traditional thatched houses. The Gray wants to paint this scene some day. The Gray is a very good painter.

I haven't painted in several years but that scene makes me want to get out my oils and have a go at it. It will make a wonderful painting, especially if done by a good painter.
Posted by: Charlotte on August 7, 2005 01:08 PMSorry about my comments - they are fixed now. A couple of days ago, for some reason, MT Blacklist seemed to think that anything which included a space was spam. Dunno how that happened but I'm glad it is fixed now. And thank you so much for the kind words about the blankie - which is finally finished as of about 3:00am this morning!
Posted by: Jon on August 8, 2005 05:52 AMVery appropriate pics, as I'm working on the Irish Moss sweater and I love grays. The grays that arise from being in a coastal environment just knock my socks off - I hope the gray can capture all of them.
Sounds like you weathered the worst of the weekend okay. Hang in there.
Posted by: Anne on August 8, 2005 06:18 AMJust seeing sweet little Donkey Hotay and his buddy Ros'inante made me think of Kevin O'Hara's The Last of the Donkey Pilgrims. If you haven't yet read it , you really must!
Posted by: Mundi on August 9, 2005 08:16 AMHahaha! That's the other name I was trying to remember :-) I've not read that The Last of..., thanks for the recommendation!
