Mermaid's body is done, and the first sleeve is about 1/3 through. I hate sleeves, but this one is more tolerable because it is still knit side to side and uses fun short rows. It's bland because it's just one color (except for two ridges in the middle) but I may survive.
I've spent the day babysitting the upload of files to the new hosting provider, which took a lot longer than I expected. Now I'm fighting with changing from a Unix server to a Windows server and I'm not sure I'll win the battle. If not, no big deal, this site will stay here and I'll use the other one for other things. But I don't like to be conquered by technology, so I'll keep on.
While waiting for files to upload I've been enjoying very much catching up on the latest happenings in the land of knitting lists and at the same time either knitting endless garter stitch or winding the pink cashmere I bought in Maryland onto a nostepinne (which will take quite some time to complete). I think this is called triple-tasking.

That Mermaid jacket is turning out absolutely wonderful - I would love to knit it myself. And your choice of colors is just beautiful! I can't wait to see it finished! Good luck!
I'm coming ot of lurking because I have a thought about your TP roll sleeve idea.
You could kfb in the last stitch of every other row. Then short row and always leave the added stitches behind to be picked up as you wind around and k2tog to attach the first wrap to the second. I don't know what you would do for the cap though...
I hope this makes sense to you. I love your blog it always reminds me of my former home(Bremerton).

Sigh...
Posted by: Beth S. on August 19, 2005 08:34 AMJayme, I think that makes sense but I'd have to try it. The sleeve caps... yes, that would be another challenge. I suppose short rows within short rows, but the mind gets dizzy thinking like that!
Beth, yes, the cashmere is a very thin laceweight, about Jamieson's cobweb weight. And the pink is a bright pale, if that makes any sense? Bright pastel is probably a better choice of words. It looks lighter when it's not all in one lump on the skein, so I'm thinking it will look great when knit in lace. It was from Carol Leigh's Hillcreek Fiber Studio, so I'm assuming she hand-dyed it.
Posted by: Sheila on August 19, 2005 09:27 AMPink. Cashmere. Pink Cashmere. Pinkcashmere. So, how come it's not until we're all *back* from Maryland that I am learning that you scored pink cashmere, little missy? Next year, I'm following you around like a dog since you obviously know all the hot shopping spots.
Posted by: Lolly on August 19, 2005 05:29 PM*Some* people left early and didn't stay for Sunday, didn't they Miss Lolly?! I might just show a picture of it soon, but I'm afraid I'll have to turn on the alarm system all the time. Heehee.
