The Mirror

Phase 2 of the cleanup has been completed. I took absolutely everything out of the stashatorium downstairs and put it willy-nilly in the Parlor (the family room, for those of you not familiar with my hoity-toity terminology). It took a day and a half, but now half of the stash is neatly stowed and organized back in its room while the remaining half is divided.

One half of that is on the chopping block-- if I can't sell it within a month it goes to Goodwill. The other half, mostly fleece and spinning fiber, goes into airtight containers into the attic. I did keep one fleece out, along with quite enough fiber to keep me spinning for some time. Hopefully the Gray will not break his neck tripping over all this stuff before I get it out of the way.

The first fall meeting of the Lacy Knitter's Guild was yesterday, and Kit and I drove down to the firehouse where the meetings are held. The firemen were not there-- they had the gall to respond to an emergency! I asked the other knitters whether we could start a fire, I mean, wouldn't they call the fire department? Nobody thought that was a good idea, so we ended up going to Starbucks for our meeting.

We looked at Japanese knitting symbols, which are incredibly intuitive and extensive, along with symbols from Anna magazine and Fiber Trends patterns, just to get a feeling of all the different systems out there. Very interesting.

After an hour or so, who should we see in Starbucks? Why, the firemen. After they left, they called Starbucks and asked them to tell us we could come back now. Wasn't that sweet?

And then. As we were leaving Starbucks, I climbed into my vehicle and noticed a familiar face sitting outside the place. It was an old fling from my days at Microsoft. He hadn't aged a bit. A feeling of horror came over me that I had changed so much in the last nine years that I didn't want him to see me and to recognize me and to say to himself as I have so often said to myself about other people "man, she has really gone downhill."

I really admire your cleaning fervor! I bet there are some forgotten gems in the stash. Don't get rid of all of them--let yourself work on something if you feel inspired. You might end up finishing it; who knows!

If it makes you feel any better, between when you and I used to work together and when we saw each other next, years later, you hadn't changed a bit. You were just as sophisticated-looking as ever!

I did find a couple of things, Beth-- nothing earth-shattering, though. Thank goodness!

Ryan, you're a sweetheart. Kit tells me I'm going through the worst of the years right now and in a couple of years I will no longer care. I hope she's right.

Another yarn sale? I still treasure my last haul from your not worth keeping bin.

Can you believe it? I think I didn't cut deep enough the first time...
