Saturday found me and the Gray at his annual holiday party. The company is half the size it was last year, meaning that we could all fit into the back room at the Metropolitan Grill, one of Seattle's landmark steakhouses, which coincidentally has over a hundred different martinis on its bar menu.
The company is overrun with nepotism, so I spend the first hour remembering who is the brother of whom, that the date of Nick's father-in-law is not really a date but actually his daughter, who is Nick's wife's sister; that the two identical women on the other side of the table with sleek black hair and gorgeous skin are not sisters, but one of them is the sister of the beautiful blonde sitting a few people to her right and so forth.
Curiously, the only thing most of us have in common besides the company is our dogs. So we sit there and talk about how the dogs have been and drink our wine and eat our fine filets and the side of "garlic-scented" mashed potatoes with rosemary sticking up like used matchsticks, discussing their various canine ailments and behaviours. When we have finished with our dinner at nearly midnight, we go home with aching undigested stomachs and try to sleep. Thank goodness it only happens once a year.
In fiber news, I have woven the first repeat of the first towel, and am pleased with the result.

The pattern is the Goose-Eye Twill from Margaret Davison-Porter's classic A Handweaver's Pattern Book. I especially love how the twill switches direction in each enclosed square. This first towel is purple on white warp, but I've made sure to buy enough different colors to avoid getting tired of the same color.
At 11 yards, this is the longest warp I've ever beamed, but to tell the truth, if it had been any longer I would not have been able to wind it on the warping board. I'm happy to report that I had no threading errors. With such a long warp, a threading error would have sent me to the great big bottle of Damnitol I keep for such occasions. Especially around holidays.
