This should tell you all you need to know about why today's entry is so short, Dear Readers:
The most exciting thing that has happened in the last three days is that The Mysterious K called me this morning to tell me she had figured out how to turn her printer on with her toes.
Other than that late-breaking news, I'm waiting for the latest word from F.I.R.E. As soon as I hear anything, you'll will be the first to know. In the meantime, I'm trying desperately to churn out one more vest. Who knew seed stitch could make you feel as if you were knitting with your hands in a vat of molasses?
Posted by Ryan at June 13, 2005 11:49 AMShe just now learned to turn her printer on with her toes? Do I need to come up there and teach TMK some skills in laziness? Is she a workaholic or just lazy challenged? Lazy challenged I can work with. Workaholics are a bit tougher and I have to charge more. Let me know if she needs an intervention.
Posted by: Stalker Angie on June 13, 2005 12:08 PMWorkaholic, Angie. But that's got nothing to do with the printer. You see, she recently rearranged her office and, although she's happy with the rearrangement--good feng shui, and all that--in order to turn on her printer, she had to get up from her desk, go around to the other side, crouch down, reach in the back and push a button. Now she knows she can stick her big toe out and Bob's your uncle.
And now, if you're going to force me to tell the WHOLE story, she also emailed me to tell me she had figured out how to pull the printed sheets out of the printer with her toes, too. I say that's going to last until the first paper cut.
Posted by: Ryan on June 13, 2005 12:18 PMI haven't mailed my box yet (probably this Friday/Saturday), but you can count me for at least 7 items. I might be able to get another one or two small hats done before then. Definitely over 2000.
Posted by: Seanna Lea on June 13, 2005 12:47 PMStalker Angie just makes me LAUGH.
Oy, seed stitch. You're a trouper, Ryan. I gotsta finish that other tutti-fruity mitt, which shouldn't be hard once I sit down to it. Yes, the "practice socks" turned into a mitten. Don't ask.
Posted by: Norma on June 13, 2005 02:22 PMthis post is actually for Norma--I just gotta ask--Norma, how many total items have you knit for the Dulaan project? Be honest now! Mary B
Posted by: Mary B on June 13, 2005 03:09 PMOooooh....Norma is gettin' called out on the carpet by MaryB. Let's have clean fight, Ladies. Norma dear, no hitting below the belt. You have a pretty sharp tongue. And Ms. MaryB, keep those hands up and don't let her fake you out.
*ding ding ding*
Hehe. Sorry. I'm seeking help and my therapist says I am much better.
Posted by: Stalker Angie on June 13, 2005 03:34 PMStalker Angie: No calling out on the carpet here! You misunderstand my request, dear, really! I just want to know how many things Norma has knit for Dulaan because I want everyone on the list to know how FABULOUS she is! At one time I thought I could keep up with her, but had to totally fall out of the "race." I think Norma is awesome, and I really do want to know, Norma, how many things you have made to send to Mongolia! Mary B
Posted by: Mary B on June 13, 2005 04:16 PMROFL. Well, MaryB, you've got me beat, for sure. Lemme think....(getting out scratch paper and putting on the thinking cap.) There have been four packages sent, but not all the items have been handknit -- some are gently used items by my daughter and some still new with their tags, recovered from deep in the bowels of said daughter's closet. I believe the total # of items is 56, soon to be 57. And although I was tempted to count pairs of mittens as TWO items, I only called them one. I believe handknit by me, 23. There was one pair of mittens handknit by someone else for me, but they didn't fit me, so I put them in a package, too. I could be off by one or two. So you see, you've beat me by multiples!
Posted by: Norma on June 13, 2005 05:35 PMSeed Stitch Solution: Put on some swinging jazz. I've found that you can really get a groove on with seed stitch if you've got a good backbeat.
Posted by: Kristen on June 13, 2005 06:15 PMWell, in a bizarre Dulaan karmic double back-flip with a half twist, most of my socks, including the best woolies, were nicked off my clothesline overnight. Now, I know there will be a stampede to divert boxes, but don't fret. I got peeps coming over before the first frost (that is, Labor Day).
Posted by: Cuzzin Tom on June 13, 2005 06:23 PM*blush* no ryan.. you rock.. and mary b and norma and etc etc etc.. you guys are awesome. and I am just proud to say I made a few things.
Sue has several items in the box I will send tomorrow as well. But I did finally beg her to take out the very last hat. it is the best-est one she made.. and it makes her look so very cute. She hasn't kept a single thing she has knit since she started.. putting it all selflessly in the dulaan box. But I feel she really should have one of the first thigs she made for herself. It took some prodding (and some help from another knitter friend) but she agreed. I counted up 10 items in my home (just hand knit) and I have about 10 items here at work as well. Final count tomorrow.
Posted by: anj on June 14, 2005 09:00 AMTMK is aquadextrious! I am too. Solidarity, sister!
(that's a sniglet - remember sniglets - for the ability to manuever things with your toes, from the fake latin for "turns the bathtub faucets on and off with toes")
Posted by: Amie on June 15, 2005 09:53 AMMy first time here so please be kind. You are hilarious. Hope no one tells me that I'm less than 5 feet tall (because I don't really know). Kyute chickens really depends. Are they Banties? But newborn goat babies...let's not go there.
