As MaryB predicted, there will be no postings to the blog next week, althooooough TMK informs me she has located both (a) an Internet café and (b) a yarn shop in Sedona. She seems inordinately proud of herself for having located the yarn shop and seems determined that I will go despite my protests to the contrary. In fact, I think her exact words were you, “You will go, and you will enjoy it, damn it, or I’ll tell your father when he comes home and he’ll whup your sorry ass.” Which would be a neat trick since he’s been dead for, oh, 20 years.
So, in the meantime, I will just leave you with an announcement:
The First 2006 Seattle Dulaan Knit-In!!
What: A casual, open house-type gathering of knitters who want to drink, eat, chat…and, oh, yeah, knit for Dulaan.
When: Saturday, October 22, 2005, 1pm-6pm-ish. (The “ish” is a nod to the Garden Party where we lingered so long that TMK had to barbecue us some dinner and eventually it got too dark for us to even see our knitting needles. We know how knitters are...)
Tentative Location: MaryB’s house in Madrona. I say “tentative” because if we get a big response we may look for another central-to-north Seattle location to hold the party.
What to Bring: The party will be a "snack luck" so bring snack food to share, plus your beverage of choice; yarn and patterns to share; any Dulaan projects you want to work on; and any finished Dulaan items you want me to mail. (TMK assures me that there will be at least one chocolate tofu pie. And you will eat it, and you will enjoy it, or she’ll tell your father when he comes home and he’ll whup your sorry ass.)
RSVP: Even if you only think you might come, please email me to RSVP so we can get a general idea of how many people will be there and can decide if we need to find another place. We’ll send out phone, address and direction information after I get back.
Note to Folks with Allergies: Mary does have two kitties, so if cat dander, cat fur and you do not get along, you may want to take that into consideration when deciding whether to participate. Her house has hardwood floors and no drapes and she says in the past she’s had guests with cat allergies over with no ill effects, but she recognizes that some people may be more sensitive than others.
Lisa from Oregon: Did you get my email about the party?
Now, off to develop a sudden passion for alcohol so I'll be calm enough to get on the plane. Two strawberry daiquiris should do the trick. Maybe three.
you'll fly, and you'll like it, or I'll tell your father...WHUPS!...
must have been channeling TMK. Have a wonderful trip. We'll miss ya!
Posted by: anj on September 16, 2005 10:27 AMYES! I did get it...Jodie just got a job..woo hoo..and while I want to come very much, it will depend on if she can get the weekend off...I will let you know as soon as I know...
just been busy, sorry no reply.
Posted by: Lisa in Oregon on September 16, 2005 10:40 AMHave the best possible time! Wish I could join you--a lovely time of year to travel in the Southwest. Say hi to Cuzzin Tom. Enjoy the damned yarn shop... hmmm what other commands can I toss out?
Posted by: Janine on September 16, 2005 11:22 AMMy father is dead, too, and it would be really disturbing were he to appear and try to whup my ass. Not that I would need that to convince me to eat tofu pie, which, as you once pointed out, makes me make "that face".
Posted by: Patti on September 16, 2005 11:33 AMThe only time I've been to the Grand Canyon was in September, about 20 years ago. It was so amazing! Words cannot describe it or the feelings of seeing it.
Have a great time!
Posted by: laura on September 16, 2005 11:50 AMHey Ryan, I can't come to the Knit-In, but I wish I was going to visit my cuzzin Peggy in AZ so our paths might cross. Anyhoo, please add me to the Dulaan Brigade again ~ there's a hat on the needles in my bag that didn't quite make it into my 2005 box.
Posted by: Maggi on September 16, 2005 12:09 PMOh, that would be SO DANGED FUN. I wish I could come to the knit-in, but I think it might be a bit excessive. Yesterday Stephanie told me she'd slap me if I drove 2 1/2 hours to hear her speak about the book, since, you know, I've already DONE that (heard her speak about the book) at least twice. Three times. Okay, maybe four. But if I can't do that, I really guess I can't get on a plane to Seattle for a knit-in. But how about I'm knittin' in at my house while you're knittin' in there? I could do that without getting slapped, I think. TMK could send me a piece of that chocolate tofu pie.
Hey, you two: Have a fantabulous time at the Canyon! It's on my list of "before I die," too.
Posted by: Norma on September 16, 2005 12:43 PMOh, & we're supposed to do what while you're off helicoptering through the wild west? I suppose we'll survive without a week's posts, but it'll be tough. Just make sure you get an obligatory photo of the sock in progress hanging out of the helicopter & have a great time.
Posted by: Samina on September 16, 2005 02:13 PMWish I could come, but I'm getting hitched that day. Have a great time!
I havehad chocolate tofu pie (at least one with a chocolate pudding base) and I would not require ass-whupping to eat it. The distance is prohibitive, though; more for the rest of you! Have fun.
Posted by: Laura J on September 16, 2005 03:05 PMTell your Cuzz that your dear readers want to send him back to Mongolia. Wait, that didn't come out quite right, did it...
Posted by: CarolineF on September 16, 2005 07:02 PMI'm so moved that you guys are going on this trip. I'm a sucker for people achieving dreams. What a blast.
Posted by: stephanie on September 17, 2005 12:50 PMI've got it on my calendar and am so far not scheduled to work that day. I've already knit 5 hats for Dulaan this week.
Posted by: Jessica on September 17, 2005 08:18 PMWait wait wait. You need "relaxation techniques" to get on a plane, but have no issues hopping on a helicopter and whizzing over what amounts to the worlds biggest hole? See, this is just another reason to love ya. Hope you 2 have a fabulous trip!
Posted by: Stalker Angie on September 19, 2005 09:58 AM*cough* I don't have anything witty to say today. *sneeze* I'm sick and feel dumb.
But I took a Xanex before getting on the plane home from Vegas (and I hate flying too) and I didn't even care that the plane hit some HIDEOUS turbulence and felt like it was going to shake apart. It was scary, but I didn't really care...LOL
Have fun :)
