You Otter Watch This

On days when I can’t think of a blessed thing to write about, thank God for YouTube. That being said, if you haven’t seen this video, you have to, especially if you’re having a bad morning/day/week/month/year/life. It’s worth watching all the way to the end, even if you have to scroll forward to about three-quarters of the way through. Oh, and oddly, it’s better with the sound off. Video

I realized last weekend that whenever I use TMK’s teddy bear as a model for knitted hats, because the bear’s head is flat and wide—much like Stewie’s on Family Guy—every hat looks like a bishop’s miter. Not the effect I’m going for. My other choices are modeling it on a mixing bowl, which makes it obscenely bulbous and round, as you’ve seen, or plopped on a lamp. Today you get ploppage. And, apparently, more obscene bulbousness and roundness. Poop. Hey, I’ve been blogging for almost four years now. A girl runs out of ideas.

With this hat, I’m actually…dare I confess it?...steppin’ out on Dulaan. I was temporarily lured off the primrose path by a chemo-cap project recently started by one of my employees.

The hat is knit using a lovely, soft, boucle-y yarn which is, strangely, 50% merino and 50% acrylic. That’s like a dinner of baked truffle brie en croute with a side of possum stew. Or a glass of Château Lafite-Rothschild with a chaser of Two Buck Chuck. Why? Why?! But somehow it works and makes for a great yarn. Granted, in the picture the hat looks like a hairball yorked up by a psychedelic cat, but in real life the colors are just cheerful and inviting and the hat just looks cozy and sweet, like a little lambkin. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Tonight, date night! I see “Happy Feet,” a large bucket of popcorn, a large box of Dots, a large box of Malt Balls and a large soda in our future, followed by two of the most violent sugar-crashes ever seen. If you need to find us, by 9:30 p.m., we should be lying comatose on the couch at TMK's house. Knock loudly.

Definitely need the video today. Too cute. *hugs*

I think your latest hat *is* cheerful and inviting, bulbousness notwithstanding. Excellent job, I say.

P.S. You might want to get a bottle of Pepto Bismol to go with all that popcorn and sugar. Just in case. (I don't know what it is about movie popcorn, but it almost always upsets my stomach. Could it be the fake butter? Dunno. The bigger mystery, I suppose, is why I keep eating it. LOL!)

Ploppage.

No wonder I read your blog. You use words that fit the situation perfectly.

Ooh, I have been interested in Happy Feet (do tell me if it is good!), and have repeatedly watched March of the Penguins (it is good for knitting).

I never thought the bear was a bad model (bad, bad bear!) Date night sounds so nice.

I'm not sure what this says about me, but I kept waiting for the one otter to just reach out and backhand the other one.

I really like the chemo cap, but I'm all about the rainbow barf, as you know.

Have fun with the date night! Dots are my favorite movie food. You did get the big theatre size box, I hope.

Yep, Renee. Big dinner-sized box, of course! After all, you need some to eat while you're killing time waiting for the movie to start (since TMK will only let me eat so much of her popcorn) and some to eat while the movie is playing. Of course, after the movie starts you have to the Dots up to the projection screen to let the light shine through them to see what flavor they are.

I hope you enjoy Happy Feet! We tried to see it a while back, but my very sensitive 6-year-old got upset when the dad was mean to his son (that's not a spoiler, BTW; it happens like 10 minutes in) and made us leave. Ah, well. Into the Netflix queue it will go.

You know what you need? You need an ostrich egg. They make dandy hat models. Although a piano-top bust Ludvig von B. adds a classy touch to a hat shot.

Love the otter video -- I'm a sucker for cute animal stuff. I sent it to my husband -- he's a sucker for snuggly stuff.

Merino/acrylic yarn is my friend. I'm pretty sensitive to wool, even _merino_ wool, so if I want any wooly goodness next to my skin at all, it better be mixed! I found some WONderful mitten yarn... ball band is... where?... anyway, it was nice & fuzzy & soft and the mittens are never far from me. I think it's a good blend! :)
(in fact I knit a sweater from some 100% merino that felt fine on my cheek and on my wrists, but I had to give it away because it itched too much... I had to hold back a tear, it was such a nice sweater.)

Love the otter video, thank you.
I think the hat is lovely, all ploppage aside, it's very cheerful and soft looking.
TWO BUCK CHUCK?!?!?!?!?
Happy movie date.

Check out the link I put in my URL...I think you might appreciate it.

(background: I love traffic cones. I've been taking pictures of them. I've been trying to think of a way to combine knitting and photography, for my photography independent study [I'm an art student.] Somehow, the magic cone post gave me an "eureka!" moment that bridged this gap.)
