Such a Loooooooooooong Way To Go

Sorry, Dear Readers, but spamming has gone crazy today so I've had to close comments on this entry. Stupid spammers.

Does this look like a Flower Basket Shawl?

Does this?

Nah, didn't think so.

Wish me luck. (Already I'm wondering, what's with the rounded edge on the left, and the pointy edge on the right?)

It'll probably straighten out during the knitting of the thing. Maybe. Perhaps? Hell, I don't know. Pretty color though.

That was one of my favorite things I've ever knit. It's kind of addicting to watch the pattern emerge and it is very easy, too. Gorgeous color choice! I'm sure the edges will block out beautifully.

No more elephants? Just pretty lace shawls without Quasimodo tendencies.

Hey! I just cast on a Flower Basket Shawl last week! Great minds must think alike. I'm plotting intricate and lacy shawls for my mom and grandma for Mother's Day.

Mine looked very strange at first, too, until I got far enough from the cast on to let the shawl relax. But if you're worried about it, stick a lifeline in and pullit off the needles so you can spread it out and check the knitting. It'll be much easier to fix it now than fix it later.

I'm starting a FBS very soon as well- as soon as I get the pattern via snail mail (my local yarn shop doesn't carry it, somehow). I'm really excited about it though... it'll be my first shawl, and maybe even more importantly, my first lace project. May the knitting gods smile upon our needles with good favor.

Gorgeous yarn. I am lace-averse myself. Someday, maybe, I will attempt it again because I truly want a woolen shawl or two. Good luck to you; I shall be following your progress with great interest.

Lace secret - blocking saves all ;-). I've had the FBS on my to-do list for ages, but don't ever seem to make progress on the darn list!

OK, I was concerned, since I've knit a couple of these now and don't remember it looking funny like that. But, I was gonna start another anyway,so I went ahead and cast on. Sure nuff, it looks funny just like yours. SOooo...unless we've both f'ed up in approximately the same way (always possible!), I guess you're on the right track.

I started a FBS in lace weight yarn once, and ripped it out half way to salvage the yarn for Icarus. I eventually did knit it, but in a heavier yarn. It was pretty, but I like the leaf lace shawl better. I like the blue you picked! Happy knitting...

Good luck! We'll be anxiously awating the results.

I think Flower Basket is a brilliant little pattern, you will love it.

Pull down firmly on that left corner until you have a -- oh eek forgetting my geometry, what is the word for this shape? Rhombus? Trapezoid? You know, a triangle with a flattened top.

I wonder if you did both halves of the shawl? See the little dangly thing where you cast on -- that is supposed to be the middle of the back of the neck. Evelyn Clark's back-of-the-neck beginnings are odd if you haven't done one before. Check the chart -- you do one repeat of the chart, then the rib and yarnovers that will be in the middle of the back, and then you have to do the chart again BEFORE you turn and do the purl side. The chart only shows half the shawl. From where the dangly piece is, it looks like maybe you did only one chart row and then turned and did the purl row without doing the second half of the shawl. Boy, that sounds like a complicated explanation -- my apologies if OF COURSE you know how to do this and you did it right and it has the pointy part anyway!

Good luck with your FBS. Mine is on attempt #7 and yarn choice #3. But on the positive side.... I've resisted the urge to just set the whole thing on fire. This must mean I'm maturing, right????!!!????
