Why Didn't Anyone Tell Me?

Apparently, if you knit one sleeve using size 6 dpns and the other sleeve using size 4, one sleeve comes out smaller than the other.

Huh.

Who knew?

Ok, well, I'm going to be the one to tell you this: Be WEWWY WEWWY CAWEFUL that if you rip out the one you knitted on 4s you don't accidentally re-knit it on ... 4s.

Ask me how I know.

Yeah. I have knit the cuff on small needles, then very carefully change to the bigger needle, then, of course, neglect to pick up the second bigger needle and find myself knitting with both sizes. This usually only lasts a short time, though, because there are "visual clues." Ah, the life of the knitter....

Really? Weird.

WTF? I've just gone through all my reference books and NO ONE mentions this!!!
Thank you for saving me from future heartbreak, dear Ryan!

Because in schools all across this great country of ours it is Science Expo time. We thought you'd want to be a part of it. Theory: If one knits one sleeve on size US6 dpns and one sleeve on size US4 dpns, the sleeve knit on the US4 dpns will be measurably smaller. Procedure: Knit one sleeve on size US6 dpns. Knit second sleeve in an identical manner, substituting size US4 dpns for the US6 dpns. Conclusion: The sleeve knit on the US4 dpns was measurably smaller than the sleeve knit on the US6 dpns. SUCCESS! Theory proved. (Pretend that photographic evidence, pie charts, and mulit-colored bar graphs are glue-sticked onto a tri-fold display board above the actual sleeves artfully on the folding table in a hot, somewhat stinky school gym squeezed in between a levitating super-magnet matchbox car and a psychology experiment involving baby ducks that believe the middle schooler next to you is Mama. Also picture bearded science teacher with a "cool" tattoo left over from his rebellious college days placing a blue ribbon on the display board with "excellent work Ryan!" jotted in the log book on the display table). You may now return to your regularly scheduled program.

Erm.. that's multi-colored bar graphs (since a mullet is a fish and so mulit colored... well) and sleeves artfully ... :) Next experiment: quantifying the embarrassment of the premature "post".
